Toledo Jeep Workers Get Temporary Furloughs for New Wrangler

The Cherokee assembly line is being retooled to produce the next-generation Wrangler JL and the JL pickup variant. In this case, employees at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio, are taking some temporary pain for long-term gain while retooling begins for the next-generation JL Wrangler. It's believed the current-generation Wrangler JK will be produced concurrently for some period of time, before the JK line is eventually also converted to build the JL Wrangler. The furloughs are expected to last approximately six months, suggesting a possible fall 2017 introduction of the new JL Wrangler, with production and deliveries starting as soon as the first quarter of 2018. According to a report from the Toledo Blade, FCA's Toledo Assembly complex will temporarily lay off 3,200 workers starting in April to transition production of the KL Cherokee from Toledo to the Belvidere, Illinois, plant, the factory formerly responsible for the assembly of the Dodge Dart compact sedan.
