But the Toyota Prius Prime—despite only offering 25 miles of all-electric range—is nearly as popular. The Prius Prime gained a little more momentum last week when it was declared the 2017 World Green Car at the New York International Auto Show. Car and Driver reported that Toyota will be shaving-off $1210 from the price of the 2017 Prius base model. Even after the 2017 Toyota Prius has received a major cut from its base price, it is still more expensive than the Hyundai Ionia. The situation has not gone unnoticed by either Hyundai, Toyota or the commercial buyer. The Toyota Prius is available for purchase Worldwide. Hyundai has managed to deliver a more sustainable and less costly vehicle, which threatens their place in the hybrid market.
Toyota Takes On Price Competition By Adding Prius One Option at $24,360Toyota has dropped the Prius' starting price by $1,210 as competition increases from lower-priced hybrids. Price competition was probably factored in by Ford to beat the iconic Prius in hybrid sales. The growing popularity of the Ford Fusion Hybrid is also having its impact on the Prius' identity in the marketplace. While the Prius had dominated hybrid sales for a decade, that crown was taken away in the U.S. during January. U.S. News & World Report in March listed the 2017 Fusion Hybrid's starting price at $25,295, slightly lower than the Prius Two at $25,570.
