Chad Gingras, 21, lost control of his Jeep Wrangler shortly before 2 a.m., police said. Gingras, who was outside the vehicle when police arrived, was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, police said.
CLEARWATER — A Largo man's blood-alcohol content was nearly three times over the level at which the state considers a driver impaired when he lost control of his Jeep and drove into the water on Clearwater Beach. Jones was booked into the Pinellas County Jail at 4:19 a.m. Monday morning and has been charged with DUI and careless driving. He is being held in lieu of $500 bail, according to jail records. Under Florida law, a driver is presumed impaired at 0.08. Clearwater Police say Ryan Tyler Jones, 21, was speeding north over the Sand Key Bridge around 1:52 a.m. when he lost control of his Jeep Wrangler at the north end and drove into the water at 800 Bayway Blvd., at the Bayside condos.
