More than a dozen lawsuits blame the automobile manufacturer for incidents like the one that killed Anton Yelchin.A slew of lawsuits have been filed against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the manufacturer of Jeep.The suits claim a defective gear shifter contributed to hundreds of incidents, including the death of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin after his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backward when he was standing behind it and it pinned him against a pillar and fence.

Jeep Dealership Denies Liability in Anton Yelchin's Death, Blames Him for the Accident

The California car dealership that sold Anton Yelchin the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that killed him in June is denying any sort of liability for the accident.In fact, they're blaming him.Yelchin's parents filed a $5 million wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler, ZF North America and AutoNation (which has since been removed) in August, citing that "defective" gearshift is what ultimately caused the Jeep to roll down the 27-year-old actor's driveway and crush him against the gate outside of his home.

Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin's untimely and horrific death earlier this summer came after his Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backwards and pinned him against his mailbox.Since the Jeep was found still running and in neutral, many immediately questioned whether the 27-year-old's passing was a result of the confusing shifter selector, the impetus for a recall of 1.1 million Fiat-Chrysler vehicles last spring.Yelchin's parents, Irina and Viktor Yelchin, also came to that conclusion and filed a wrongful death lawsuit against FCA less than two months after their son's death.
