October auto sales decline 4.4%automotive/"_blank">automotive.com/category/cars/"_blank">Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said Tuesday its October sales fell 10.3 percent to 176,609 vehicles.(Photo: Bill Pugliano / Getty Images)Auto sales fell an estimated 4.4 percent in October, marking the first time since the beginning of the Great Recession that sales of new cars/"_blank">cars and trucks in the United States declined for three consecutive months.Despite the slight drop, analysts don't seem alarmed and aren't expecting any repeat of the last time this negative trend occurred, when year-over-year monthly sales from November 2007 until August 2009 fell and sent two of Detroit's three automakers into government-backed bankruptcies.

FCA Canada posts further sales decline in Octoberautomotive/"_blank">automotive.com/category/cars/"_blank">Fiat Chrysler saw a further decline in sales in October with figures dropping 11 per cent compared to the same time last year.FCA Canada sold 19,527 vehicles last month compared to 22,031 in October of 2015, according to the latest numbers.Overall sales throughout the year are also down 4 per cent with 239,185 units sold compared to the 248,522 sold during the same time period last year.
